At dinner last night a middle aged wealthy couple were chatting. Actually the wife was doing the chatting the husband uttered occasional whimpering sounds – in a pandering sort of a way. As I selectively tuned in and out of their conversation I noticed how much of it centered on her; what she’d done, what she liked that she’d seen that day; what she’d buy…. etc. It got me thinking… if women talk about themselves with such ferocity and ease what would our handbags (forcibly at our sides all day long) have to say about themselves (given a chance)?
Take the new Mitzy bag by Mulberry! Here’s what I believe it would say about itself: -
What to know about me?
“Firstly, don’t judge a book by its cover! You may at first think me flighty, fanciful and full of unfulfilled aspirations but look a little deeper please”.
“On closer inspection you’ll see I am grounded – a most reliable little number! I am full of dependability born from ‘knowing my roots’ with a clear (although sometimes doubtful) sense of purpose”.
“I am no ordinary bag! I have talents and gifts! I have an inner quality that likens me to the more masculine energies of strength, untamed modesty and gall”.
“Most of all I like me; who I am; how I look; and what lies beneath the surface”!
Now that sounds more like an interesting conversation! One can only muster so much enthusiasm for the ‘darling elephant earrings’ seen in the spa yesterday afternoon!
