Dogs Aren’t Just For Christmas – What About Our Handbags?

by Debbie on January 16, 2010

Ealier this week I wrote about ‘Bags of whisper net and weight watchers’ aka our handbags are getting smaller!  A few days later you couldn’t move for Wire articles,  TV and Radio features on this very point.

Stop the world I hear you scream!  On the face of it this may appear to be good news for those of us with neck and back ache or that fetching droopy left hip!   But, wait a minute!  Has anyone stopped to think what  it actually means?

  • Are we about to cast aside our over sized pals ?  At the price we often pay, handbags like dogs should be for life!
  • Do these once so needed and trusted aids, no longer serve a purpose if you fall into the ‘fashion conscieous’ fan club? Or is there still a time and a place?
  • Are we now morally bound to ‘fit in’ with yet another new code of Big Brother says how to live your life?
  • What  are we supposed to do if our loved one does happen to be a little ‘fuller in the flesh’ than Kate Moss favours!

Size – a coveted virtue in same cultures should not be less so, simply because!  As strong willed, independent- minded women we should be free to chose our ‘bag du jour ‘ without any obligation or pressure. Intelligently, of course we will take any helpful tips along the way, to help us carry it off with style rather than Diclofenac!

With this in mind, I’m off for a private one on one Pilates lesson to learn how I can safely be seen about town without fear of paint or eggs being thrown all over me!

More to follow!
