In a week where a man lost his life trying to retrieve the bag of a victim of a mugging; Tony Blair is reportedly in discussions with Louis Vuitton – and Bags have officially lost weight (3.3 lbs to be precise) – can the world of women’s arm-wear grow any more bizarre?
Well maybe it can! It now appears that the ‘ IT’ in “IT- bag” friendly vernacular has had a change of identity: Instead of being about ‘keeping up with the latest arm fashion paraded about by the Wags and Celebs of society’, ‘IT’ has reverted back to being about good old fashioned Information Technology: bags are being featured and designed with anorexic accessories in mind – such as the iphone, ipod, Kindle and mini-me magazines. In a world once obsessed with ‘big = best’ we have moved into a space of small =the next best thing!
As a struggling Techno aficionado I confess to being slightly impressed by the growing functionality and slim line look and feel of i-this and that! Take the Kindle and it’s ability to self-order and download content from it’s built-in 3G connected Kindle Store (whisper net). It struck me that maybe, one day soon, handbags too will be self- service and order up their own accessorised matching purse, pochette, key fob, PDA cover, business card holder and wash and wipe to go? Now then, when that happens we really will be impressed. Or, go running for the hills like a scene from the Life Of Brian!
